Sagesse - Revised Standard Version (1966)
Sagesse ou Sagesse de Salomon dont la langue d'origine est le grec. Rédigé en Egypte, à Alexandrie, vers la fin du Ier siècle par un juif érudit de langue grecque. Le propos est de soutenir la foi des juifs d'Alexandrie dans une période critique. Le plan global du livre est le suivant : Exorde (1,1-15), La Sagesse et la destinée humaine (1,16-5,23), la Sagesse dans son origine (6-9), la Sagesse et Dieu dans l'histoire (10-19), conclusion (19,22). L'auteur de la Sagesse n'est ni un théologien ni un philosophe. Il se propose beaucoup moins de faire l'exposé méthodique d'un système que d'exhorter ses lecteurs à la recherche de la Sagesse et de la vie concrète qu'elle requiert. Son livre est la méditation d'une âme à la foi ardente, l'émouvant appel d'un croyant à ses frères. Dieu a fait l'homme pour l'incorruptibilité, telle est la bonne nouvelle. Après la mort, et sans doute immédiatement, l'âme fidèle continue de vivre, non pas de la survie traditionnelle du chéol, loin de Dieu, mais d'une vie sans fin de bonheur auprès de Dieu.
