1Samuel - Revised Standard Version (1966)

Samuel, ou le début de la royauté en Israël. Le livre s'articule ainsi : cycle de Samuel (1-7), Samuel et Saül (8-15), Saül et David (16-31). Le livre se termine par le désastre de Guelboé (31,1-13) qui introduit de fait le second samuel. Théologie : Samuel et le type même de l'enfant du miracle élevé au sanctuaire. Modèle des prophètes attachés à un sanctuaire, il s'impose comme défenseur des droits de Dieu (thème de la fidélité à Dieu). Saül est un héros malheureux, beau mais jaloux, il viole l'anathème et Samuel ne peut que proclamer sa déchéance devant Dieu (15,29).
