Le due lettere ai Corinzi sono scritte da Efeso negli anni 55-56 d.C. A Corinto Paolo è stato un anno e mezzo e vi ha fondato una comunità numerosa e vivace, composta in prevalenza di ex-pagani. Informato dei problemi che agitano la comunità, Paolo risponde con una prima lettera condannando le fazioni sorte tra i cristiani, legate ai vari predicatori (cf. 1 Cor 1,10-4,21); corregge vizi, tra cui un caso di incesto (cf. 1 Cor 5), e disordini, in specie nei comportamenti assembleari (cf. 1 Cor 7- 14); chiarisce dubbi circa la risurrezione dei corpi (cf. 1 Cor 15).
