CLOSING SPEECH

BY

His Most reverend eminence

Cardinal Darío Castrillón Hoyos

Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy

At the end of this fourteenth international theological videoconference, I would like to renew my heartfelt thanks to the theologians and professors who have joined us.

We have heard that Christian spirituality is a spirituality of life and commitment in the world and in history, that are the temporal place and time for the presence of God’s merciful love.

"But trailing clouds of glory do we come From God, who is our home" wrote the poet Wordsworth (Jordan Auman, Spiritual Theology, Ed. Dehoniane, Rome 1990, p. 44), with the intention of briefly describing the relationship between the ultimate goal of Christian life – the glory of God – and its developing in time.

Christians however are not simply clouds that pass by without leaving a trace. There is spirituality impregnated with logic and the divine pedagogy of the Incarnation, and not discarnate and individualist. In this sense all Christians, and in particular the holy ministers in the Church, are clearly called upon to answer the questions raised by current culture and science, through the testimony of their holy lives, and do not consider themselves extraneous to the events of the society they belong to, as living limbs of Christ’s Body.

This is why our next videoconference, organised for January 29th, will discuss the subject of Peace challenged by wars, violence and terrorism.

That the Lord, through the intercession of His Mother, may bless us in the forthcoming Solemnities of Christmas and the Epiphany with abundant fruits of sanctity and apostolate!

Once again many thanks to all of you!
