Catechesis /Cathechism Cat. Ch. /
Catechism of the Catholic Church. Part I. Definitive version.
15/08/1997
First Part: the faith in its believed dimension. Those belonging to Christ through their faith and baptism must confess their baptismal faith before men (see Mt 10:32; Rm 10:9). As a consequence, the Catechism expounds first what we mean by Revelation, by means of which God turns to man and gives himself to him; then it expounds our faith, by means of which man responds to God (first section). The Symbol of faith summarizes the gifts given to man by God as the Author of every good, as the Redeemer and Sanctifier, and splits them up in the «three chapters» of our baptism, i.e. our faith in one and only God: the Almighty Father, the Creator; Jesus Christ, his Son, our Lord and Savior; and the Holy Spirit in the holy Church (second section).

Third Part: the faith in its lived dimension. The third part of the Catechism of the Catholic Church presents the ultimate goal of man, created in God’s own image; the beatitude and the ways to obtain it: a straight and free behavior with the help of God’s law and grace (first section); a behavior implementing the twofold commandment of charity expressed in God’s ten commandments (second section).

Fourth part: the faith in its praying dimension. The fourth part of the Catechism of the Catholic Church deals with the meaning and importance of prayer in the life of believers (first section). A short commentary to the seven requests of the Lord’s prayer concludes it (second section). In these requests, in fact, we find all the goods we must hope in and that our heavenly Father wants to give us.
