Después del envío de la primera carta, surge en Corinto una crisis respecto al la misma autoridad de Pablo. En la segunda carta que nos ha llegado, que parece resultar de la fusión de más textos enviados en tiempos diversos, encontramos una defensa de su misione de apóstol atacado por propagandistas judeo-cristianos (cf. 2 Cor 10-13), la preparación de su próxima visita (cf. 2 Cor 1-7), indicación acerca de la organización de una colecta a favor de las comunidades cristianas pobres y de la Palestina como signo de la comunión entre Iglesias hermanas. (cf. 2 Cor 8-9).
